Most of the tuna sold by Sea Fresh comes from Sri Lanka, one of the world’s most important suppliers of yellowfin tuna. Sea Fresh has its own processing company here: Northwest Fishery possesses its own fleet of fishing vessels and state-of-the-art production facilities. Sea Fresh works in partnership with the local community in continuing to increase sustainability in tuna fishing. Fish are only caught on ‘longline fishing boats’, which ensures that by-catch is kept to a minimum.
Northwest Fishery is both HACCP and BRC-certified and regular audits are also conducted by the European authorities (Fisheries division of the European Commission) and Sea Fresh’s own quality managers.
Each tuna fish can be traced back to the boat on which it was caught. Each fish is also tested for histamine and deliveries of fish are always accompanied by a histamine report.
